Former SMU associate director charged with corruption

The associate director allegedly accepted corrupt gratifications worth $472,000 from three companies.

Former associate director of Singapore Management University (SMU) Christopher Tan Toh Nghee and three others have been charged for alleged corruption in relation to their companies' interests with the university.

Also charged are former director of International Alliance Marketing Kenneth Lum Hsien Loong, former director of CJ Synergy Cher Kheng Than, and former managing director of Assetualize Jeffery Long Chee Kin.

According to the statement from the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau, Tan had allegedly accepted gratifications totaling $472,000 from these three executives from August 2017 to November 2019.

Lum, Cher and Long face 35 charges, some in relation to the violating the Prevention of Corruption Act for their actions with Tan.

Tan and Cher both face one charge of giving false information with the investigation bureau, and one charge of intentionally obstructing the course of justice.
