Daily Briefing: Thousands forced to walk across the Causeway amid toll hike; Pro-Singaporean hiring rules kick in after backlash

• Thousands of Malaysians working in Singapore have to walk across the Causeway to get to work in Singapore as the bus lanes at the customs, immigration and quarantine complex at the Sultan Iskandar Building were choked with hundreds of factory buses from as early as 4am. Read about it here. 
• New hiring rules favouring Singaporeans kicked in Friday as part of measures aimed at addressing citizens' complaints about foreigners stealing jobs from them. Singapore-based companies needing professional workers now have to advertise on an online "Jobs Bank" for at least 14 days before they can seek an employment pass for a foreigner. Find out more here.
• HDB will make two refinements to the Enhancement for Active Seniors (EASE) programme. Firstly, the age criterion will be lowered to 65 years old. Seniors between 60 to 64 years old who require assistance in daily living are also now eligible for the EASE programme. This will allow an additional 100,000 households with seniors to benefit from the programme.  Read more here.
