Chart of the Day: Here's proof that redundancy in Singapore finally dropped

According to MoM's latest report, redundancy declined, after rising in the preceding two quarters. 2,120 workers were made redundant in the first quarter of 2013. This was lower than the 3,350 workers affected in the preceding quarter and 2,600 in the first quarter of 2012.

Manufacturing saw fewer layoffs (680) than in the fourth quarter of 2012 (1,580). Redundancy also fell in services (from 1,690 to 1,300) but rose in construction (from 70 to 130).

The decline in redundancy was observed across the three occupational groups. Professionals, Managers, Executives & Technicians (PMETs) formed three in four (75%) of the residents laid off in the first quarter of 2013.

Production & related workers (14%) and clerical, sales & service workers (11%) formed the remaining of the workers affected.
