Chart of the Day: This graph shows Singaporeans' biggest fears about aging

Almost 60% are worried over medical costs.

According to a recent Nielsen survey, the top three concerns that Singaporean consumers fear about aging are: not having enough money for medical costs (58%), losing the ability to care for basic needs (57%) and losing physical agility (56%).

After retirement, more than three quarters of Singaporean respondents would like to focus on staying physically and mentally fit (77%) and spending time with their family (63%) and eating healthy (44%).

Here's more:

When asked if the respondents became too old to care for themselves and cannot live alone, what would be their most realistic living arrangements -; nearly two in five respondents in Singapore say that they plan to live at home with their spouse (38%) while 17 percent said that they will stay with their children, live in an assisted living facility (17%) or in a nursing home (16%). In other markets in Southeast Asia, more people plan to live with their children.

Advertising messaging is not resonating among more than half respondents in Singapore (55%) who say they don’t see ads that reflect older consumers. Substantial percentages of Singaporean respondents also find it difficult to navigate assistance from service-oriented industries like finance (46%), housing (45%), meal-delivery providers (42%), transportation (41%) and medical insurance (38%).

On the product front, more work is necessary to cater to seniors who often have special nutritional needs or dexterity limitations or desire smaller-sized food portion packaging. Almost half of respondents in Singapore say they cannot find foods that meet special nutritional diets (47%), more than four in 10 (45%) say it is difficult to find product labels that are easy to read and 41 percent have trouble locating packages that are easy to open.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

You're the reader we write for. You're also the person our partners want to reach.

If that sentence describes you — a founder, a C-suite, someone whose attention companies pay good money for — then you already understand why SBR works. We've spent twenty years earning the trust of readers exactly like you. Which is exactly what makes this an interesting place for your company to show up, too.

The ways it can show up are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The right fit depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If your company has something this audience should know about, we'd like to hear what you're working on.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.

None of these stories are mine. They were sent to me by readers of Atomic Habits. My hope is that these examples will illustrate how real people are putting the book into practice. They will show you what people are actually doing to build good habits and break bad ones. And hopefully, they will spark some ideas for how you can do the same.
