Automated job application frustrates 56% of job seekers

Job hunters complain they get fewer responses from employers.

Over half or 56% of job seekers in Singapore find themselves frustrated with automated application processes, Randstad revealed in a study.

The study said that these job seekers in Singapore, along with those in Hong Kong and Malaysia, cannot find the personal touch they want to have in their job search.

The reasons behind this frustration are that 50% felt that the job search has been made more impersonal by technology and that 43% felt that online job applications got fewer responses from the employer.

"These statistics illustrate how job-seekers feel that technology is not actually helping them in their job search, but rather is hindering their prospects at jobs that they may have interest in," Randstad said.

However, 78% of candidates still said that they want to use technology to enhance their experience whilst focusing on "the human connection."

Randstad Singapore, Hong Kong, and Malaysia managing director Michael Smith said, "These latest research findings are a timely reminder that organisations must take great care in the implementation of new innovative technologies in their recruitment processes. A failure to do so may result in the damaging of their employer brands, hindering their ability to attract and retain the best talent."
