Around 20,000 jobs expected in digital, ICM sector: Josephine Teo

Jobs in the infocomm media sector grew by 5% in the last few years, the Minister for Communications and Information said.

More jobs will be created in the infocomm media (ICM) sector soon, driven by committed investments by the Economic Development Board (EDB).

“In the last two years, all the investments and commitments that EDB secured, and all the jobs that these investments are expected to create, about 40% (around 20,000) are digital roles,” said Minister for Communications and Information Josephine Teo in a speech, Wednesday.

She said local employment in the sector grew by 5%, or more than 8,000, in the last few years.

The quick pivot to digital platforms, driven by the pandemic, will increase the demand for digital tech talent. In turn, this would translate into attractive careers for Singaporeans, Teo noted.

“Collectively, these trends point to a picture of Singapore’s digital future that is very much at the forefront of our economy, and that offers exciting opportunities for Singaporeans – both our people, as well as our businesses – that are willing to take on these challenges, build up their own capabilities, and of course to innovate,” the Minister said.
