50,200 job vacancies recorded in 2010

The economic recovery in 2010 was met with a 36 per cent-on-year increase in employment opportunities. A record 50,200 jobs were made available as of September 2010.

According to the latest annual job vacancies report from Singapore's Ministry of Manpower, the highest number of job vacancies was for service and sales workers, which accounted for 22 per cent of total vacancies with 10,330. This is followed by professionals, with 18 per cent covering 8,270 vacancies and associate professionals and technicians with 18 per cent for 8,230 vacancies.

Overall, there was high demand for professionals, managers, executives and technicians with 44 per cent; clerical, service and sales workers with 29 per cent; and production and transport operators, cleaners and labourers: 27 per cent

The high number of job vacancies meant that the number of openings vacant for at least six months increased from 10,140 in 2009 to a five-year high of 15,360 in 2010.
