NUS launches new full term scholarship for entrepreneurship

It will include up to $50,000 seed funding for graduates.

The National University of Singapore (NUS) introduced a new bond-free scholarship that aims to boost innovation and local entrepreneurship, an announcement revealed. The scholarship will be known as the Stephen Riady Young Entrepreneur Scholarship after its benefactor Dr. Stephen Riady.

The scholarship will offer students access to mentorship and guidance from NUS enterprise, NUS’s entrepreneurial arm, as well as the opportunity to gain international exposure from partner universities and internships in start-ups overseas.

“Entrepreneurs are drivers of innovation, and they will play an increasingly significant role in Singapore’s economic progress, especially in the digital age,” Dr. Stephen Riady said.“ It is my hope that this new scholarship could cultivate the next wave of entrepreneurs who can help Singapore to stay ahead amidst challenging times.”

The university expects as many as 50 startups to be put up in the next 10 years.

NUS president Tan Eng Chye said that this scholarship would allow students to further pursue their ambitions, as well as contribute to national efforts to cultivate and nurture entrepreneurial talent.

Six NUS freshmen were recipients of the scholarship in August at the start of the new academic year.
