Half of Singapore workers threatened that digitalisation will snatch their jobs
Almost half think their managers are lacking in engaging them to digital upskilling.
Employees in Singapore are the most prepared in Asia Pacific to expand workplace digitalisation as 68% are confident that they have the right skill set to survive the digital economy, a study by software Workday revealed.
The study found that Singapore placed next to Korea as the top country in high digitalisation awareness as 74% of Singapore respondents expected a high impact of technology in the workplace. However, 49% think that their managers do not proactively engage them to upgrade their careers in terms of digitalisation.
“Our research shows that Singapore’s efforts to prepare the country’s workforce for rising digitalisation, including the Smart Nation initiative are paying off.,” Workday Southeast Asia managing director Jasie Fon, Managing Director said.
“Whilst there is clear recognition amongst workers of the benefits of digitalisation, we also see that there is room for Singapore employers to be more proactive in engaging their employees for increased productivity,” Fon added.
In addition, despite feeling prepared for the digital economy, one in two workers look at digitalisation as a threat to their jobs joining other counterparts from Korea (62%) and Hong Kong (57%).
The survey gathered answers from 1,400 employees in APAC countries including Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Malaysia and Thailand.
