Alibaba offers training programme for doctorate students in Singapore

They will receive a monthly stipend of $5,000 and their tuition fee will be waived.

Alibaba launched its talent programme in Singapore with support from the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and the Economic Development Board (EDB), the firm’s news website Alizilla revealed.

According to the report, the program will arm postgraduate students with research and development skills through giving them access to one or more of Alibaba’s research facilities, including the Alibaba-NTU Singapore Joint Research Institute at NTU and the Alibaba campuses in Hangzhou and Beijing. Selected students will have also have their tuition wavered and will be given a monthly stipend of $5,000.

The research projects which the students will delve into will be led by Alibaba and universities in Singapore. The firm noted that top scholars for the programs will have the chance to be absorbed by Alibaba after their graduation.

“All our Ph.D. students involved at the Alibaba-NTU Joint Research Institute will also have hands-on experience in developing and deploying systems involving AI, data analytics, blockchain, internet of things, neural networks, automation and cybersecurity, all of which are critical for the smooth running of a Smart Campus and a Smart Nation,” NTU vice president and co-chair of Alibaba-NTU Singapore Joint Research Institute Lam Khin Yong said.

Singapore citizens and permanent residents will be welcome to apply for the program starting 31 October.
