What do Singaporean students consider an ideal job?

In terms of fields, computer science is a popular choice.

Despite recent market fluctuations, computer science, IT, healthcare and the medical industry remain the top career choices for junior college (JC), international baccalaureate (IB), and polytechnic students and graduates, the Scholarship & Education 2022 Survey revealed.

According to a survey, most JC/IB students (28.9%) and polytechnic graduates (33.3%) want to enter the healthcare industry. Meanwhile, top JC/IB students and polytechnic students want a career in computer (software) (35.3%) and engineering industries (22.8%), respectively.

In terms of environment, students want to belong in a company that offers growth and opportunities.

Breaking it down by groups, 97.8% of top JC/IB students, 92.1% of JC/IB students, 91.9% of polytechnic students, and 93.8% of polytechnic graduates said they prioritise career growth and opportunities.

Last year, students prioritised workplaces offering learning, development and growth opportunities.

In terms of pay, students across all four groups believe the acceptable median starting salary would be between $3,000 to $4,000.
