Professionals embrace 'loud learning' to boost upskilling

Three in 10 professionals engage in such practice.

Singaporean professionals are practising “loud learning” to surmount upskilling obstacles, with six out of ten indicating that it helps them find time to enhance their abilities.

LinkedIn defines “loud learning” as the “act of being vocal and intentional about learning ambitions in the workplace.”

In Singapore, 31% of professionals are already engaging in such practice.

Most professionals in Singapore engage in the practice by sharing learnings with teammates (47%).

Other ways that professionals are engaging in “loud learning” include sharing their learning journey or accomplishments on LinkedIn (45%) and informing their team members of their learning time blocks (31%).

LinkedIn also found that 60% of professionals are inspired to engage in “loud learning” when their peers do, which may explain why 34% have a “learning BFF” or a friend who learns and supports them.

More than half of professionals engage in “loud learning” because the practice supports their career growth. Some say the practice provides opportunities for mentorship and guidance from experienced professionals (31%), increased satisfaction and fulfilment about their career (29%), and even open doors to new career opportunities or advancement (29%).

“Skills needed for a job are expected to change by 50% on average by 2030, and emerging tech like generative AI is expected to accelerate this change to 72% in Singapore. It is crucial that professionals focus on upskilling and learning to future-proof their careers,” said Pooja Chhabria, LinkedIn career expert and head of editorial APAC.

“‘Loud Learning’ is a great way of overcoming barriers Singaporeans face when dedicating time to learning. It gives professionals an avenue to prioritise their learning journey, whilst also inspiring and encouraging others to dedicate time to developing skills,” Chhabria added.
