Employers struggle to find local tech talents as job demand surges

Recruitment campaigns are being prolonged and rerun.

According to the latest Hays Quarterly report, demands continue to grow higher every quarter as local tech talents become more scarce in Singapore.

Managing Director Lynne Roeder said that there is a rising number of roles becoming available in the market. “Most employers are struggling to fill them due to the significant shortage of suitable local candidates,” Roeder added.

Employers prolong recruitment campaigns and only end up short or having to rerun in an effort to hire local candidates. Despite the shortage in qualified talents, companies remain focused on hiring candidates with strong soft skills.

“For example, project managers should be proactive problem solvers with the ability to effectively translate the tech world to non-IT colleagues plus be able to demonstrate a willingness to pursue professional development to keep up with the latest solutions and technologies,” said Roeder.

Strong project managers remain in demand as companies continue to find candidates that are able to drive projects across change management, regulatory compliance, and business transformation.

Moreover, employers expect project managers to have excellent stakeholder management skills and a proven ability to manage multiple decision makers, costs, and people.

Other tech professionals across the field remain high in demand. Among these are cloud architects, cyber security professionals, data analytics experts, data scientists, data warehousing experts, business analysts and mobile developers.

“Companies are willing to look overseas but the process is a highly selective one in order to secure an employment pass.,” Roeder added.

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.
