10 types of annoying bosses you'll meet in Singapore

By Adrian Tan

You can stay out of your house longer if you don't like your wife, ignore your parents' calls when you are too bored to talk to them, but bosses... that's a tricky one. Whether you like them or not, you have to interact with them, and if you are planning to stick around in your job, you have to keep them happy. We give you the 10 most common types of bosses.

  1. The incapable boss - You literally could not find out anything from her. Not because she isn't willing to share. It's because she doesn't know anything at all and hence nothing she can do to help.
  2. The bross - This is the combination of a bro and a boss. Always wanting to hang out with you for drinks or a smoking session, robbing you of anytime to get any real work done.
  3. The Hormonal boss "2 faced" - one minute she is jovial and happy cheating with a client, the next she come screaming down your neck with instructions.
  4. The questionable boss "Why is she boss again?" - Given how she slacks off in the office, one wonders how she even rise up to be in that position.
  5. Always around boss - This boss is like a ninja. You don't see her but once her name is mentioned, she will appear out of the blue.
  6. Egoistic Boss "You shouldn't be better" - Got a bigger house or car than this boss? Be prepared to "pay" with more workload.
  7. Boss from hell - They need the 5 reports, 15 power points by yesterday.
  8. Slave driver - No medical certificate is powerful enough to deflect her stream of demands.
  9. The skirt-chaser boss - Not sure why but his hires carry the common denominator of young and pretty
  10. Cheapskate boss - tap water instead of water cooler, interns instead of a full-time administrator, no air-con on a rainy day, you get the picture.

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

You're the reader we write for. You're also the person our partners want to reach.

If that sentence describes you — a founder, a C-suite, someone whose attention companies pay good money for — then you already understand why SBR works. We've spent twenty years earning the trust of readers exactly like you. Which is exactly what makes this an interesting place for your company to show up, too.

The ways it can show up are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The right fit depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If your company has something this audience should know about, we'd like to hear what you're working on.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.

30 One-Sentence Stories From People Who Have Built Better Habits
None of these stories are mine. They were sent to me by readers of Atomic Habits. My hope is that these examples will illustrate how real people are putting the book into practice. They will show you what people are actually doing to build good habits and break bad ones. And hopefully, they will spark some ideas for how you can do the same.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
