Tourist arrivals spike 13% in H1

Over 8.2 million people flocked the city-state.

The tourism sector has been on the upside in the first half of the year as the number of international visitor arrivals saw a 13% uptick from the same period last year.

For the first half of the year, Singapore welcomed over 8.2 million visitors, with over 55% or 1.5 million people coming from China based on the latest figures by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB).

Singapore also saw an uptick in tourists coming from Indonesia. Aroun 1.4 million visitors from the said country set foot in the city-state, a 5% increase from a year ago.

Among the top five market, only Malaysian tourists declined at a modest 2%, accounting only 553,000 number of tourists.

Arrivals from Hong Kong, which is in the top 10 markets, also posted a decline at 2% to 268,000 tourists.
