Temasek, STB unveil $1b overhaul of Mandai region

Temasek and the Singapore Tourism Board have unveiled a $1b overhaul of Mandai region, which will be turned into an integrated wildlife and nature heritage precinct in Singapore.

This will involve the relocation of the Jurong Bird Park from its existing site in Jurong to Mandai, as well as redevelopment of the former Mandai Orchid farm and an abandoned village.

These attractions will be integrated with the existing Singapore Zoo, Night Safari and River Safari which are owned and operated by Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS), a Temasek subsidiary.

According to DBS, the enhancement of Singapore's nature and wildlife offering will be incrementally positive for the hospitality sector.

"This is especially in light of new attractions being added in other markets such as Shanghai Disney in 2015 and 20th Century Fox World studios in Malaysia in 2016. In addition, this enhanced offering could potentially increase the average length of stay and overall tourists’ spend in Singapore. Tourists who previously had to chose between the Jurong Bird Park and Singapore Zoo/Night Safari can now conveniently enjoy both at one go" stated DBS.
