Hong Leong unveils multi-million dollar makeover for New York’s iconic Hudson Theatre

It will reopen for the 2016 Broadway season.

Hong Leong’s London-listed subsidiary Millennium & Copthorne Hotels (M&C) will refurbish and restore Manhattan’s storied Hudson Theatre, the company said in a statement today.

M&C has bagged a new lease with the Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG), through its subsidiary, Hudson Theatre LLC. It will reopen for Broadway productions for the 2016/17 season.

“We are extremely pleased about this alliance with ATG, a theater group with a terrific reputation for producing top-class live theater productions around the world and are delighted to be returning the Hudson Theatre not only to its former splendor but to its original intended use,” said M&C Chairman Kwek Leng Beng.

Significant work will be undertaken to both front and back of house, including new state-of-the-art seating, a premium lounge service, new dressing rooms and the introduction of hi-tech lighting equipment and stage systems that will firmly re-establish the Hudson Theatre as one of Broadway’s leading theaters.

The renovation will begin in the new year. Hong Leong declined to give a precise price tag for the deal.
