Fly away now! Singaporeans 6th most travel confident in APAC

More than seven in 10 residents seek to travel in the next 12 months.

Singapore  ranked sixth in travel confidence amongst Asia-Pacific (APAC) markets, according to a survey from  Booking.com.

Within the 11 markets in the APAC region, India topped the list, followed by Vietnam and China, which recently started reopening borders. This was followed New Zealand and Australia, which ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.

Hong Kong came in seventh place, followed by Thailand and Korea. Taiwan and Japan were at the bottom of the travel confidence rankings.

Results also indicated that 75% of Singaporeans were likely to travel in the next 12 months. About 56% of respondents in the Lion City said they have confidence with their country when accepting travellers.

When it comes to staycations, majority or 36% of Singaporeans said they will likely book staycations, 29% are neutral about it, whilst 35% are unlikely to go to staycations.

Amongst those willing to book staycations, 46% said they will do it for family trips, 38% said for anniversaries and birthdays, 29% said they will do it for romantic getaways, 23% said for self-love, 7% said for other occasions, and 20% said for “no reason.”

Over 42% Singaporeans also said sustainable travel decisions are important to them, and over four in 10 respondents sustainable travel choices are not important whilst 16% are neutral about the matter.

For those who responded that sustainable travel choices are important, a vast majority or 97% said they are concerned about affordability or travel cost.

The survey was conducted by Milieu Insights, which was commissioned by Booking.com, and polled over 1,000 respondents aged 16 and above in 11 APAC markets from 19 April to 17 May. 

It was made to evaluate travel topics such as sustainable travel, behaviour on travel revival, role of online firms, restarting travel, and other country-specific concerns.
