SG adds around 500 beds to SG healthcare facilities, more expected by year-end

Singapore aims to add 1,300 beds by the end of the year, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said.

Around 500 beds have been added to Singapore's healthcare facilities, with the Ministry of Health (MOH) saying it is on track to add about 800 more by the end of the year.

Of the added capacity, 30 beds were at acute hospitals, 90 at community hospitals, more than 350 at nursing homes, and 20 at Mobile Inpatient Care at Home.

Health Minister Ong Ye Kung announced the development at the opening of the Tan Tock Seng Hospital-Integrated Care Hub on Monday. The upgrade is a response to address the overwhelming bed crunch at hospitals.

In a statement, Ong said that the additional capacity requires more manpower, adding that the MOH will continue to closely monitor both the infrastructure development and manpower inflows to ensure that they are increasing in tandem.
