Pollution hotspot: Singapore haze level shoots past 100-point mark on Monday, says NEA

Local air quality is now unhealthy.

Singapore’s air quality level breached the 100-point mark on Monday, indicating an unhealthy level of pollution in the island.

According to the National Environment Agency’s website (www.haze.gov.sg), the Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) is ranged from 78-105 at 9am on Monday. A PSI value from 51-100 is considered moderate, while a PSI value from 101-200 is considered unhealthy.

The island’s western region recorded a highest reading of 105, while the north and central regions recorded the lowest readings.

“The health impact of haze is dependent on one’s health status, the PSI level, and the length and intensity of outdoor activity. Reducing outdoor activities and physical exertion can help limit the ill effects from haze exposure. Persons who are not feeling well, especially the elderly and children, and those with chronic heart or lung conditions, should seek medical attention. Given the air quality forecast for the next 24 hours, everyone can continue with normal activities,” the NEA noted.
