NNI, IMH ink MOU to strengthen neuroscience and psychiatry partnership

This aims to leverage their commonalities and complementary strengths for the public. 

The National Neuroscience Institute (NNI) and Institute of Mental Health (IMH) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen their partnership in the fields of neuroscience and psychiatry.

The MOU will reportedly make it easier for patients to be cross-referred when needed.

NNI CEO Associate Prof. Au Wing Lok said that there are many opportunities for the NNI and IMH to learn from each other "at a clinical level."

NNI and IMH will compare their different approaches to their specialties in order to manage brain conditions and the advances in the fields of neuroscience and psychiatry.

CEO Associate Prof. Daniel Fung highlighted the connection between neurology and mental health, saying that many of the earliest psychiatrists were trained as neurologist.

“This shared history is reflected in our understanding that mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety and addiction – conditions that affect one in seven Singaporeans – are deeply connected to neurobiological processes,” Fung said.
