Labcorp adds 90 additional research and engineering jobs

This came as the life sciences company opened its new bioanalytical laboratory.

Labcorp announced the inauguration of its newest bioanalytical laboratory facility in Jurong East on 10 November. The company also announced the expansion of its central laboratory. Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong was in attendance.

The latest investment by Labcorp will add around 90 additional research and engineering jobs, building on their 350-strong team in Singapore. These positions will offer job opportunities in the healthcare sector, including nursing coordinators to facilitate decentralised clinical trials and data engineers to develop artificial intelligence technologies to assist in diagnosing diseases.

According to Gan, Labcorp's bioanalytical lab and central laboratory expansion are the first-of-its-kind in Southeast Asia. He adds its new Good Laboratory Practice and Good Clinical Practice-compliant bioanalysis and immunochemistry platforms will provide bioanalytical testing services that are critical to the early-stage development of biologics and vaccines in Singapore. The expansion will also provide companion diagnostics laboratory testing support, as well as cell and gene therapy testing capabilities.

The biomedical sector recorded strong growth despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, expanding by 24% last year compared to 2019. Singapore has continued to attract and retain leading-edge investments in the biomedical sector, such as Thermo Fisher, BioNTech, Sanofi and GSK.
