Daily Briefing: LTA delays licences for PMD-sharing services; HSBC joins race for in-demand data talent

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has for the second time pushed back a decision on awarding licences to companies seeking to operate sharing services for personal mobility devices (PMDs).

LTA said in response to media queries that it will announce the results of the applications "at a later date".

Earlier this year, 14 companies had submitted applications to operate PMD-sharing services here. The application results were supposed to have been announced in the second quarter of this year, but had been delayed to the third quarter.

On Monday, LTA said it will be consulting device-sharing and rental companies on additional regulations to improve public safety.

HSBC has been competing with other banks and tech firms in Singapore to hire data scientists, with the bank recruiting for a senior data scientist in global liquidity and cash management (GLCM), part of the global banking and markets (GBM) division.

HSBC is adding over 400 retail and private banking employees such as relationship managers between 2018 and 2023 as part of a broader plan to expand in Asian wealth management.

Digital healthcare provider WhiteCoat has partnered with caregiving services platform Homage to launch a pilot telehealth programme aimed at home-based care for elderly patients.

WhiteCoat’s mobile application will offer Homage customers a range of medical services, including teleconsultations, issuance of medical referrals, as well as prescription, dispensation, and delivery of medication at an affordable cost.

This programme seeks to better the management of chronic diseases and conditions on elderly patients, such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes. The programme presents the patients with an option to see a doctor at their homes.

According to Data.gov.sg, the prevalence of hypertension, diabetes, high total cholesterol among Singapore residents aged 18 to 69 years, is 23.5 per cent, 11.3 per cent, and 17.4 per cent respectively.
