Grab teamed up with online healthcare player Ping An Good Doctor to provide medicine delivery and appointment bookings by early 2019 in some Southeast Asian countries.

Grab will own 30 percent of the joint venture, and Ping An Good Doctor will own the rest. Both parties will invest an initial US$20 million into the new venture, although they may put in an additional US$120 million, noted a Ping An Good Doctor filing in the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong.

“We will quickly replicate most of our services in China to the new Southeast Asia platform,” said Ping An Good Doctor’s CEO Wang Tao, at a press conference. “We will even bring our traditional Chinese medicine services there, as there are many Chinese immigrants in Southeast Asia.”

Vending machines that dispense random mystery prizes which are operating in shopping malls such as NEX, Bugis Junction, and White Sands are illegal as they are considered as a form of public lottery, which is a violation under the Section 5 of the Common Gaming Houses Act, a spokesperson from the Singapore Police Force said.

“Existing merchants operating such vending machines are advised to cease these operations. Police will take enforcement actions against merchants who continue to contravene the law,” said the police spokesperson.

Any person found guilty may be fined between $20,000 and $200,000 and jailed up to five years.
In response to queries, Heybox Vending owner Rebecca Chan told Yahoo News Singapore that they had been notified by the police and had stopped operating its 15 machines. “We are still thinking of plans to move forward,” said Chan.
