Cordlife to resume cord blood banking in 'controlled manner'

It can only collect 30 units per month of new cord blood.

Cordlife will resume its cord blood banking services in a "controlled manner" after receiving approval from the Ministry of Health (MOH).

Under MOH's conditions, Cordlife can only collect, test, process, and store a maximum of 30 units per month of new cord blood from infant donors between 15 September and 13 January 2025

Based on MOH’s findings, Cordlife has complied with the necessary standards to resume its cord blood banking services, which include validating the AXP II System for processing cord blood, establishing a new temperature monitoring system with satisfactory practices, and optimising its incident tracking and escalation workflow.

Despite the progress, MOH indicated that Cordlife needs to improve the effectiveness of its CGL's supervisory approach and maintain consistency in its risk and issue impact analyses. Cordlife also has yet to complete the testing of low-risk tanks.

Meanwhile, the company said its inability to fully resume operations will likely result in a negative financial impact for FY2024.
