Singapore Food Agency suspends 24 unlicensed food stalls, trucks

The 24 were operating during the Hari Raya Mega Sale 2023.

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) announced that they suspended the operations of 21 unlicensed food stalls and three unlicensed food trucks operating during the Hari Raya Mega Sale 2023 fair at Singapore Expo Hall 5A.

A preliminary investigation conducted by the agency’s officers revealed that unregistered food handlers are running said food stalls and trucks inside the fair.

SFA said that it directed Megaxpress International Pte Ltd, the organisers of the Hari Raya Mega Sale 2023 fair, to cease the operations of these unlicensed food stalls and trucks “in the interest of public health” whilst the investigation is on-going.

Under the country’s Environmental Public Health Act, all temporary fair operators must apply for a permit from SFA at least two weeks before the commencement date of their events, allowing it to ensure they follow food safety measures.

They also required their food and beverage stalls to get a licence from the agency, and their food handlers must pass the mandatory Food Safety Course Level 1.

SFA warned temporary fair operators who cannot adhere to the regulations. “Offenders are liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $10k. For a subsequent conviction, they are liable to a fine not exceeding $20k or imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months or to both,” the agency said.
