New hawkers to flourish under NEA training and incubation programme

The agency will offer culinary training and apprenticeship courses to aspiring stallholders.

Aspiring hawker stall operators will now receive support from the National Environment Agency through a new training programme and incubation scheme, Senior Minister of State for Environment and Water Resources Dr. Amy Khor announced during the first Hawkers’ Seminar.

With support from SkillsFuture Singapore, the Hawkers’ Development Programme will be comprised of three stages: training on culinary and business programmes, apprenticeship with veteran hawkers, and the opportunity to tap on NEA’s Incubation Stall Programme (ISP) to test the sustainability of their business plans.

As the guest of honor, Dr. Khor also gave out awards to 27 hawkers in appreciation of their mentorship and performance.

In March, the NEA extended the ISP’s 50% rental rebate for hawker stalls from six months to nine to provide up-and-coming stallholders more time to establish their businesses. To encourage others to join the trade, the agency also extended their 25% rental rebate to additional six months, making it a total of 15 months of rebate for participants of the programme.
