Daily Briefing: HDB resale transactions down 9.1% in Q4; Keppel cuts jobs amid industry slump

Resale prices of HDB flats dipped by 0.1 percent in the fourth quarter of 2016, according to a complete data published by the Housing Board. For the whole of 2016, the Resale Price Index slipped by 0.1 percent. On the other hand, resale transactions fell by 9.1 percent to 5,012 cases in Q4 2016 from 5,514 cases in the previous quarter. On an annual basis, resale transactions rose by 7.8 percent to 20,813 cases last year from 19,306 cases in 2015. Read more here.

Keppel Corp, the world's biggest oil-rig maker, said Thursday it cut 10,600 jobs last year and mothballed two overseas shipyards as weak crude prices continued to batter the industry. The cuts were in the conglomerate's Offshore and Marine (O&M) division, which has been hard hit by the downturn in oil and gas exploration following a prolonged slump in crude prices since 2014.
