Chart of the Day: See the unprecedented growth in restaurants at the CBD

Offices can’t get enough of meals and entertainment.

Business has been good at the CBD in recent years, especially with the F&B industry as well as health and space lifestyle outlets, based on newly available data from the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA).

According to Colliers, in the Downtown Core area, the existing supply of non-shop comprising F&B, entertainment as well as health and space lifestyle outlets grew by 10.0% from 1Q 2011 to 2Q 2014, an expansion of 3.0 million sq ft to 3.3 million sq ft, based on newly available data from the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA). This growth indicated that new eateries have joined the grand dames of Tower Club, China Club and Si Chuan Dou Hua in Singapore’s financial district.

Colliers adds that perhaps a more telling statistic is the ratio of shop space to non-shop space (where a significant proportion is estimated to comprise F&B outlets). In all of Singapore, shop space accounted for 61.0% of all retail space, with F&B, entertainment and health and fitness outlets taking up the remaining 39.0% in 2Q 2014. However in the Downtown Core, shop space formed a substantially lower proportion of 51.8%, while non-shop space made up 48.2% during the same period.
