SingPass launches new app for e-services

Users can now log in using their fingerprint, facial recognition or a six digit passcode.

Local and overseas SingPass users can now download a new mobile app which will let them access and perform government transactions on the go, an announcement revealed.

Through the SingPass Mobile app which can be downloaded from Google Play or the App Store, users can log in using their fingerprint, a six digit passcode or facial recognition for transactions such as checking their central provident fund (CPF) balances and applying for public housing managed by the Housing and Development board (HDB).

“Every month, we receive about 150,000 requests from SingPass users to reset their passwords,” chief executive for Government Technology Agency of Singapore (GovTech) Kok Ping Soon said. “SingPass Mobile is another step towards our vision for citizens to access government and private sector digital services securely with a single, trusted National Digital Identity.”

The app was developed by GovTech and will also feature enhanced security measures to protect personal data from potential breaches or malicious mobile software.

To activate the mobile app, users will need to download it from their applicable app stores and complete a one-time setup which verifies their identity, according to the announcement.

SingPass Mobile will be an additional option for SingPass users, as existing modes SMS One-Time Password (OTP) and OneKey token will continue to be available.
