Pioneer and Merdeka Generation seniors to get $270m of MediSave top-ups in July

The top-ups will be given only to qualified seniors.

This coming July, only the qualified seniors from Pioneer Generation and the Merdeka Generation will receive their 2019 MediSave top-ups. They will be given a total of $270m in MediSave top-ups as part of the Pioneer and Merdeka Generation packages.

The Pioneer Generation package was first introduced last 2014.

Annually, Pioneers receive a lifetime benefit between $200 to $800 in Pioneer MediSave top-ups. The expected top-up cost for 2019 is $170m.

While the package for the PG was introduced first, the Merdeka Generation package was only announced at the Budget 2018.

From another report, close to 500 000 Singaporeans seniors received their letters of eligibility for the MG package last April, an announcement by the Ministry of Finance (MOF) revealed.

From late June 2019, MG Seniors will also receive their Welcome folder and card.

As announced at Budget 2019, Singaporeans who were born from 1 January 1950 to 31 December 1959 and became Singapore citizens by 31 December 1996 can expect to receive the Merdeka Generation Package. The MG Package will also be extended to those born on 31 December 1949 or earlier, became Singapore citizens by 31 December 1996 and did not receive the PG Package.
