Central Bank unveils the Lee Kuan Yew centenary coin

Singaporeans can obtain the commemorative coin starting September 2023.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore has launched a commemorative $10 coin to celebrate the birth centenary of the country's late Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew.

The gold-coloured LKY100 coin is minted in aluminum bronze and has a diameter of 30 millimetres. Its design featured the late Prime Minister's portrait, accompanied in the foreground by the Marina Barrage.

Its backdrop is the skyline of the Raffles Place financial district and two of the country's heritage buildings -- the Fullerton Hotel (formerly the Fullerton Building/General Post Office) and the National Gallery Singapore (formerly the Supreme Court and City Hall).

The other side has a dual latent image featuring the late Prime Minister's birth year viewed from one angle and his birth centenary from another below the country's Coat of Arms.

The monetary board said the LKY100 coin paid tribute to the country's founding Prime Minister's "strategic vision, boldness, and indomitable spirit that transformed Singapore from a regional trading port to a global manufacturing, business and financial hub, creating opportunities for all Singaporeans."

The LKY100 commemorative $10 coin will be available for collection from September 2023.

Singaporeans who want to obtain the coin can apply online at go.gov.sg/lky100-order. Starting mid-August, an SNS message including the number of coins allocated, collection period, and bank branch would notify the applicants.
