Citi links credit card to Apple Pay's system

The service was simultaneously launched in Australia and Hong Kong and will be rolled out to Taiwan later this year.

Credit card customers with Citi Singapore can now enjoy the luxury of leaving their physical cards and wallets at home as the bank is now linked to Apple Pay’s system. The service was simultaneously launched in Australia, and Hong Kong and will be consequently rolled out to Taiwan later this year.

“Apple Pay provides a secure and seamless way for Citi customers to transact using their compatible Apple devices, giving them access to the bank’s credit services even when they don’t have their Citi cards on hand,” said Citi head of cards and personal loans Vikas Kumar.

Users need only bring their mobile phone with Apple Pay when doing their shopping as the credit card is already stored within the device’s system. For online shopping in apps or in websites, Apple Pay verifies identities through face or touch ID.

“We are delighted to expand the range of our digital wallets so that all our customers can benefit from our digital capabilities regardless of the mobile operating systems they use,” Kumar added.

Using a credit or debit card with Apple Pay ensures that actual card numbers are not stored on the device nor on Apple servers as a unique Device Account Number is assigned and stored within the user’s device.
