AXA Insurance introduces “SmartClaims” Application on Android

AXA, one of the world's leading insurance providers which launched the first motor claims iPhone application last year in Singapore, now extends the service on android starting here and in Hong Kong to the rest of Asia. This, as AXA sees explosive growth in the use of technology in the region over the next five years.


SmartClaims application on Android, to be officially launched in Singapore tentatively in the third quarter, according to the firm’s management, provides customers with instant support when it comes to the claims process. It guides the customer to record important information at the accident scene and sends it instantly to the selected workshop to start the claims process.


The application was first introduced in Hong Kong on March 16, 2011. Other Southeast Asian entities are exploring doing the same, said AXA management.


“We see technology playing a significant role in shaping the General Insurance industry in Asia. This is especially true for Singapore, which was ranked as having the world’s third-highest Smartphone penetration rate, according to a recent TNS Global Market Research survey,” Chua Kim Soon, appointed Principal Officer and Chief Executive Officer of AXA Insurance Singapore told Singapore Business Review.

In a research note released last month, the market research company found that 72%, or about 5.3 million, of the 7.3 million mobile phones here are smartphones making Singapore the world's third-highest smartphone penetration rate, after Saudi Arabia's 86% and the United Arab Emirates' 75%.

“The explosive growth in the use of technology in this region shows that Asians are getting increasingly reliant on technology, translating into a greater willingness, and expectancy even, to buy the basic types of insurance using non-traditional devices and platforms. Through technology, people are expecting not only a quicker service, but greater control over managing their policy directly online,” added Kim Soon.
