Youth groups say quality of life dropped in 2023 compared to 2019

Teenagers were mostly hit by the impact of health restrictions for social events.

There is a higher proportion of youth groups (39%) aged 15 to 19 who said there is a decline of quality of life in 2023 than the general population (28%), data from Ministry of Communication and Information (MCI) showed.

The survey showed that the effects of restrictions on social activities were felt by the youth. 

An example of this is 40% of youths compared to 28% of the general population said their relationships with friends were poorer than in 2019.

Overall, seven in 10 Singaporeans said their quality of life was the same or better in 2023 compared to 2019.

Compared to the general population, respondents with multiple dependents (e.g., elderly seniors as well as children in the household) were more likely to grade their overall quality of life now to be “Poor” or “Very Poor.”
