Singapore ranks 13th amongst top global cities

Cities were ranked according to their environmental, economic, and university impact.

Singapore has been ranked 13th in investment manager Schroders’ index of top 30 global cities, moving a place lower from 2019, according to a press release.

US city Los Angeles took the number one spot, retaining its position from 2019, which was followed by London. Hong Kong ended as the third best city, whilst Boston and Seattle rounded up the top five, at the fourth, and fifth place respectively.

A new metric, environmental impact score, was introduced in this year’s index, together with the constant proprietary metrics of economy impact score, and countries’ university impact score.

“Cities are responsible for more than 70% of global CO2 emissions, and how they respond to the demands of rapid global urbanisation, as well as environmental and social concerns represents both a challenge and opportunity for policy makers, residents and investors,” said Tom Walker, co-head of the Global Cities index.
