Singapore drops four positions to 7th place in Global Liveable Cities Index

It’s the 2nd most liveable in Asia, after Hong Kong.

Singapore dropped four places on Asia Competitiveness Institute’s Global Liveable Cities Index (GLCI). In 2015, it ranked 7th among the 64 cities worldwide across the globe. Switzerland’s Geneva topped the list, while Hong Kong placed 6th.

The index ranks the 64 countries according to five dimensions: Economic Vibrancy and Competitiveness, Environmental Friendliness and Sustainability, Domestic Security and Stability, Socio-Cultural Conditions, and lastly, Political Governance.

Singapore performed strongly in Economic Vibrancy and Competitiveness (2nd), Domestic Security and Stability (5th) and Political Governance (1st).

However, Singapore’s ranking was dragged down by relatively dull rankings in Environmental Friendliness and Sustainability (24th) and Socio-Cultural Conditions (12th).

The country performed well on indicators for Economic Openness, Crime Rate, Diversity & Community Cohesion, and Policy Making & Implementation. Meanwhile, Singapore has the potential to further improve by making changes in the sub-environments of Depletion of Natural Resources, Medical and Healthcare, and Income Equality and Demographic Burdens.

Out of the top 10 countries, only Singapore, Hong Kong, and Auckland (8th) were non-European.
