Singapore bags 11th place at Global Cities Index

The Lion City ranked 2nd in Asia.

Singapore climbed three ranks higher on the Schroders Global Cities Index, claiming the 11th spot in the 2020 results.

This puts the city state in the 2nd place when it comes to Asian cities. Hong Kong ranked 6th.

"Singapore is small by landmass and very efficient, hence the good transport score. Also if you take traffic data it scores well given the management of cars on the road, unlike LA. The airport data is self-explanatory showing how well connected Singapore is compared to top international rivals in the region," said Hugo Machin, co-head of global property securities at Schroders.

The Global Cities Index ranks cities based on four metrics: economic, environmental, innovation and transport. Singapore ranked 3rd in transport globally, following Zurich and Stockholm.

"Our data shows that only environmental score is low compared to other top cities, a combination of being in a very hot latitude holds them back but that is compensated by some forward thinking environmental policy to make the city more sustainable in terms of its basic needs, such as wate," Machin said.
