Singapore among the leaders in inclusivity in APAC: report

Melbourne and Wellington also scored highly.

Singapore was among the key cities leading urban inclusivity in Asia Pacific, alongside Melbourne and Wellington, according to a new report by Cushman & Wakefield.

In its first Inclusive Cities Barometer for APAC, C&W tagged the Lion City as a “strong spatial inclusiveness performer” primarily because it offers a conducive environment to live in. 

It said the city-state boasts of low crime rates and a top-notch public transport system, while providing a strong regional connection with its reputation as a key financial hub. This attracts top talent and helps foster innovation.

Singapore also scored highly in terms of economic inclusiveness due to its strong labour force participation and low levels of the population in vulnerable employment.

“Singapore continues to drive itself forward by strengthening its inclusivity credentials through technology, sustainability, and liveability efforts,” the property agency said.

To cement its leadership in the race to building a “smart city,” the city-state launched a US$2b green investment program in line with its net zero goals.

The barometer assessed the performance of 35 cities based on four segments: economic, social, spatial and environmental. The barometer serves as a prompt for the commercial real estate industry to challenge the social status quo.
