Schroders, Conservation International invest in SG firm to speed up climate solutions

Akaria Natural Capital will deploy capital from 15 to 20 projects.

Singapore firm, Akaria Natural Capital, will fund 15 to 20 natural climate solutions projects across Southeast Asia over the next five years.

This stemmed from Schoders and Conservation International’s partnership which seeks to speed up investment in natural climate solutions. Akaria Natural Capital was tapped as its first dedicated natural capital impact investment in Singapore.

Akaria Natural Capital “plans to manage a series of funds that invest in natural capital solutions projects in the region and will apply for a fund management licence from the Monetary Authority of Singapore.”

These projects are expected to provide long-term returns and environmental benefits. These projects will also target positive impacts for local communities.

Akaria Natural Capital will be headed by Gary Addison as CEO, and Simon Chadwick, chief impact investment officer. oth have extensive backgrounds in private equity investment and have actively participated in its creation as co-founders.

Peter Harrison, Group Chief Executive of Schroders, said the natural-based solutions should be in high quality and benefit local communities.

“That’s why we’re working with Conservation International to do this right. Our ambition is high: we want to harness the power of investment to accelerate a natural positive future by creating opportunities for impact beyond returns,” said the Schroders executive.
