President’s Challenge shifts to longer-term funding model
It will also extend its support to the arts and sports.
President Tharman Shanmugaratnam announced the launch of the refreshed President's Challenge which aims to shift the model from one-off to longer-term funding, allowing beneficiary organisations time to build capabilities and scale social innovations.
The campaign will collaborate with philanthropists to secure multi-year contributions.
It will also extend its support to the arts and sports, including partnerships with schools through SportsSG, and provide additional backing for disability sports.
This shift follows increased social spending and donations to the Community Chest, with social service causes receiving the largest share of giving and volunteering. Non-governmental platforms for social good have also seen growth.
The revamped President’s Challenge will introduce fellowships to develop young civic leaders and recognize individuals seeking second chances in life.
Launched in 2000 to foster a cohesive society and support the disadvantaged, the campaign has expanded its focus, with recent themes including mental health, empowering people with disabilities, and caring for caregivers.
