Median monthly income from work rose 2.8% in 2010

The Gini coefficient rose slightly from 0.471 in 2009 to 0.472 in 2010 including employer CPF contributions.

Adjusting for government benefits and taxes, the Gini coefficient was 0.452 in 2010. Median monthly income from work among resident households rose by 3.1% from $4,850 in 2009 to $5,000 in 2010 in nominal terms, and by +0.3% in real terms.

For employed resident households, median monthly income from work rose by 5.7% in nominal terms to $5,700 in 2010, and +2.8% in real terms. Median monthly household income from work in 2010 recovered to above the level before the economic downturn in 2009.

Among employed households, the average monthly household income from work per household member increased by more than 3.0% in real terms for all income groups. Small housing types saw highest resident households income growth. Biggest improvement for employed resident households in real terms for 11-40th and top 10th percentile.

On average, the various government schemes added $1,110 per household member to resident households in 2010.
