Government workers to get mid-year bonus and $300 lump sum payment in July

About 1,450 civil servants with lower wage will receive a one-off $500 lump sum.

Government employees will be given a mid-year bonus worth half their monthly pay as well as $300 as one-off lump sum payment,  the Public Service Division (PSD) said. Meanwhile, a higher lump sum of $500 will be granted for those with lower wage from Grades IV and V of the Operations Support Scheme (OSS). About 1,450 government employees will benefit from this.

“The above mid-year payments signal the Government’s continued commitment to support our lower-wage civil servants,” PSD said.

Moreover, the agency announced a built-in wage increase of $20 will be given in addition to the annual increments of civil servants in Grade V of the OSS.

According to PSD, Singapore’s economic performance for the second half of the year will be taken into consideration by the government in determining the year-end Annual Variable Component (AVC) payment for civil servants

“Based on preliminary estimates, the Singapore economy grew by 4.4% in the first quarter of 2018 and is expected to grow by 2.5% to 3.5% for the full year,” PSD noted. The agency said that the labour market has improved slightly in the first quarter of 2018, with unemployment rates and retrenchments declining whilst total employment slightly grew.
