General Motors unveils new regional headquarters in Singapore

There were 100 new local hires.

Car manufacturing giant General Motors officially opened its new regional headquarters in Singapore yesterday in Singapore. This comes nine months after GM first revealed its plans to move to Singapore from Shanghai in November 2013.

GM President Dan Ammann and GM Executive Vice President and President, GM International, Stefan Jacoby officiated at the opening ceremony with the company’s key stakeholders and local employees. The Singapore headquarters has approximately 200 employees, including 100 new local hires.

According to Amman, “Establishing this headquarters in Singapore has put us closer to our key markets and will provide links to the broader business community as well as access to world-class infrastructure and talent.”

“We are pleased that GM has chosen Singapore to set up their International headquarters. As Asia’s burgeoning middle class fuels rapid growth in demand for automobiles, global companies like GM are choosing to leverage Singapore’s well-established and unique ecosystem of logistics infrastructure, supply chain management talent and professional services to drive their regional strategy and capture the growth of the automotive segment in Asia,” noted Quek Swee Kuan, Deputy Managing Director of the Singapore Economic Development Board.

GM’s new headquarters is located at the 37th floor of the Ocean Financial Center at 10 Collyer Quay.
