Dr Tony Tan wins Presidential Election 2011
He beat closest contender Dr Tan Cheng Bock by not more than 2% of the total number of valid votes cast.
"This was an intensely fought election, and the result was very close," said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of the recent poll that saw 2.15 million people voting.
The Returning Officer allowed the recounting of all votes cast in Singapore, and Dr Tony Tan emerged as the next President.
