Daily briefing: SG’s richest 50 gets richer by 25%; Starlux SG-Taipei flight takes off in September

The 50 richest individuals in Singapore saw their combined net worth rise by 25% to US$208b from US$167b in 2020, Forbes’ Singapore Rich List reported.

The list found that 36 tycoons in Singapore increased their wealth as the country recovers from the COVID-19 crisis. Around 42 have also maintained their fortunes at US$1b or more.

Amongst those that topped the list were Li Xiting of Shenzhen Mindray Bio-Medical Electronics, Facebook Co-founder Eduardo Saverin and Paints Tycoon Goh Cheng Liang.

Taiwan’s STARLUX Airlines will be launching a new flight route between Singapore and Taipei in September.

The airline will set two weekly flights on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the new route. It will begin on 23 September.

It is expected to increase the weekly flights to three with an additional schedule on Saturday, starting October.

Li Xiting, founder of China’s largest ventilator firm Shenzhen Mindray Bio-Medical Electronics Co, is this year’s richest individual in Singapore.

His net worth currently stands at US$23b, bringing him one rank higher from last year’s Forbes Singapore’s 50 richest list. This showed an increase of US$5.2b from his net worth in 2020.

The list featured three newcomers, including Grab Co-founder Anthony Tan with US$790m, entrepreneur Shi Xu with US$1.8b and Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao with US$1.9b.
