Many restaurant owners in the central business district had to brace themselves for the start of Singapore’s "circuit breaker" measures.

Under the measures, there will be no dine-ins at Singapore's 4,800 restaurants and only takeaways and deliveries will be allowed from Tuesday until 4 May.

However, some restaurants have decided to halt operations as there are too few residents in the CBD to sustain business. In-person and online orders would also be few and far between as these platforms only deliver within a 5km radius from a restaurant’s location.

Competition on the delivery platforms will also stiffen as an influx of establishments vie for orders.

Venture capital firm Quest Ventures secured QazTech Ventures and Pavilion Capital as anchor limited partners (LPs) for its $50m funding, according to a report.

QazTech Ventures is investing $10m in Quest Ventures to nurture startups in Kazakhstan and Central Asia over the next three years. This will be the company’s first LP investment in Southeast Asia (SEA).

Quest Ventures reportedly is aiming a $25m first close in December for the same early-stage fund.

The company targets startups in SEA’s digital economy in areas such as agritech, food chain supply, and logistics.

Jetstar Asia is one of several aviation companies that teamed up with the government to help funnel temporarily idle workers into much-needed public roles.

Staff are being deployed into roles such as contact tracers and other administrative jobs in hospitals, according to local media reports.

Singapore is co-funding a large share of workers’ wages in the hard-hit aviation sector. Authorities will station some of these ambassadors along with enforcement officers in public housing estates to discourage people from hanging out in public spaces.

The new temporary roles come as airlines globally are dealing with unprecedented challenges, including salary cuts and job losses.
