Daily Briefing: Passengers to be directed into Changi Airport's new holding areas; Grab launches new career portal to support drivers

Passengers flying through Changi Airport will be directed to new transit holding areas in Terminals 1 and 3, according to Changi Airport Group (CAG). This is to provide “a safe environment for all passengers and airport workers” as it prepares for the gradual resumption of transit passenger services.

This comes after Singapore Airlines (SIA) announced that it has received approval to reinstate transit flights from some cities in Australia and New Zealand.

CAG said that the holding areas will be disinfected regularly and temperature taking will be conducted at the entrances. The transit holding area in Terminal 1 is located at Gates C1 to C3 and the one in Terminal 3 is outside Gate A15.

Grab has launched a career support portal for drivers seeking other career opportunities, the ride-hailing operator announced. The portal is open to all Grab drivers and will initially focus on tech and digital roles across various industries.

Through the portal—which is expected to launch later this month—drivers will be able to get career coaching and training certification for the jobs they wish to pursue, in addition to job placement and networking opportunities.

The firm also announced a tie-up with Ngee Ann Polytechnic to launch a new driver training programme featuring two courses—Customer Service and Quality as well as Vehicle Safety and Maintenance.

The courses will run for six months initially, with Grab and Ngee Ann Polytechnic reviewing the curriculum at the end of the period.

Singapore-based private venture debt fund Genesis Alternative Ventures has secured an undisclosed amount of investment from American global investment fund Capria, as it looks to double down on investing in impact-focussed startups.

The firm, founded in 2018, has invested in a significant and diverse number of startups to date, including cybersecurity company Horangi, coworking space GoWork, co-living startup Hmlet, cloud-based platform Matterport, and mobile connectivity company Lynk Global.

Moving forward, Genesis plans to leverage on Capria's expertise in impact investing to fund companies that have meaningful objectives, such as financial inclusion, sustainability, small business digitisation, and gender diversity, as it accelerates its growth across Southeast Asia.

On the other hand, by infusing capital into Genesis, Capria marks its first entry into Southeast Asian waters.

The Seattle-based investment fund’s primary focus has always been in private funds and companies operating in emerging markets.
