Daily Briefing: Jardine C&C price hits 52-week low; Polytechnic grads earned $2,235 in 2017

Jardine Cycle & Carriage announced last month that it had upped its stake in Vietnam-listed Refrigeration Electrical Engineering Corporation (REE) from about 23.6% to 23.9%. It paid around US$2m for the purchase.

The acquisition came hot on the heels of another investment in the country. In November, Jardine Cycle & Carriage invested US$1.2b for a 10% stake in Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company (Vinamilk), a leading dairy producer in Vietnam with a market share of approximately 58%.

According to the latest polytechnic Graduate Employment Survey (GES), graduates across the five polytechnics in Singapore who were in full-time permanent earned an overall median gross monthly salary of $2,235 in 2017 – comparable to the $2,200 they earned in 2016.

With a median gross monthly salary of $2,500, graduates who were in the health sciences courses were found to earn the most in 2017 – similar to the $2,450 they took home in 2016.
