Analyst predicts Singapore's headline inflation to remain low
2013 forecast is 2.8%.
According to Nomura, headline CPI edged up marginally to 1.6% in May, from 1.5% y-y in April, as a fall in card prices was offset by higher food and accommodation costs.
Core inflation, an important determinant of the MAS’ monetary policy, eased to 1.7% y-y (from 1.4% in April). Nomura Economics Research continues to maintain its view that headline inflation will remain low for the rest of the year and has a 2013 headline CPI forecast of 2.8% y-y, which is lower than MAS’ official 3-4% forecast.
